Safe Space Clubs

Safe Space Club is aimed at creating socially responsible, inclusive and sensible student professionals, who will be equipped to handle their own vulnerabilities, insecurities and risks physically, emotionally & skillfully and also enabling them to create safe spaces for other vulnerable communities through awareness workshops, campus engagements and training involving their faculty members and administrative staff in the university and its affiliated colleges.

This club will act as a learning space for building their leadership skills, self-awareness and brotherhood/sisterhood through a multi layered ‘service learning’ model. In a safe space, young people feel free to openly express themselves in a confidential environment, and to ask sensitive questions without fear of judgement.

Educating & Empowering Everyone in Campus

A safe space in a college setting is a place where students can feel comfortable and supported, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or any other personal characteristic. We do engage students, faculties and others with activities and learning experiences that complement what they are learning and unlearning within their campus that aids their academic curriculum as well towards society. These routes are critical ways of strengthening young people’s life skills, which are crucial for preventing unsafe, unhealthy, harmful practices or behaviors and are often ignored in the formal curriculum.

Most of these interventions have engaged girls separately from boys and different other genders to give each their own space to speak freely, gain confidence and improve their knowledge, attitudes and practices in managing violence and inequality. In a safe space, young people feel free to openly express themselves in a confidential environment, and to ask sensitive questions without fear of judgement. We will work towards

  • Identify topics in a month that helps them feel physically and emotionally safe

  • Create leadership opportunities - Mentors and coaches (who may be faculty, student leaders or volunteers) can play an important role in shaping students’ attitudes and behaviors

  • Strengthen linkages with the campus and wider community

  • Curricula that combine life skills with other activities
